1. The Challenge
Our client required high elevation imagery of walls, roof, valleys, guttering and parapets. Due to the buildings location and Grade II listing, they were refused permission to erect scaffolding for the inspection and they were only given permission to use a cherry picker to carry out the inspection with a restricted time frame of before 11am on a Sunday. The client assigned DroneCam Solutions Ltd team to collect high elevation imagery of the building using drones as we were able to attend the site and provide the client with the results in the timeframe required.

The solution:
DroneCam Solutions undertook relevant checks in order to ensure a safe flight could be completed, we initially completed our remote site and risk assessment and informed authorities of our activities. When on site, our safety officer carried out a perimeter check and set up the safety cordons to prevent members of the public from walking into the flight path of the drone.  We then carried out the drone flight, which documented in video and imagery the state of the building at high elevation, ready for the reports that were being completed by our client.

The results:
As a result, DroneCam Solutions Ltd achieved:

  • High resolution imagery of the building without requirement for scaffolding or a cherry picker
  • Collection of required imagery with in 50 minutes, results provided to the client with in 2 hours after the drone had landed
  • Successful identification of the starting point of a large crack which ran down the rear of the building
  • Costs savings as no scaffolding or cherry pickers were required
  • Vastly reduced health and safety requirements as there was no human element involved with working at height
  • Reduced time on site from approximately 1 day to 50 minutes.

2. The challenge
Our client required imagery for an inspection report to assess the current state of existing buildings on either side of the river Mersey, which were going to be neighbouring a new bridge that was being built to allow quicker access for buses to the station. Our client also required imagery of the riverbank walls for the same purpose. It was the first time this client had looked into using drones and contact DroneCam Solutions Ltd to carry out the aerial work, we recommended the client also have high elevation imagery throughout the project in order to document the construction of the bridge that could be used for both portfolio and regular progress reports.

The Solution:
After completing our site and risk assessment, we contacted the local authorities to advise them of our activities, we used a single take off and landing site on both sides of the river Mersey to carry out the drone flight, which enabled us to collect the required imagery for the inspection reports. Given the 360 vision and unrivalled maneuverability of our drones, we were able to quickly and safely work on both sides on the river. We provided the client with the imagery for the inspection reports with in 3 hours of us leaving the site and provided on-going progress report images for the duration of the 6 month project.

The results:
As a result, DroneCam Solutions Ltd achieved:

  • High resolution imagery of the riverbank walls and neighbouring buildings which clearly showed the current state
  • Collection of imagery with in 2 hours, results provided to the client with in 3 hours after the drone had landed
  • Costs savings as no scaffolding or cherry pickers were required
  • Reduced time on site, an estimated 3 days on site with use of cherry picker was reduced to 2 hours with the use of our drones
